🏛 The Daily Stoic — Give People the Benefit of the Doubt

Calendar reading: October 15 in The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. Ancient source: Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 12.22 (Greek).

Independent summary: A painful encounter does not tell us everything about another person’s intention. Before treating a mistake as deliberate harm, examine the judgment you have added to the event. Choosing a more generous interpretation can make room for a calmer response. Discernment and appropriate boundaries still matter.

Reflection: What do I actually know, and what am I assuming?

❤️ Today’s Connection

Receive God’s hope. Carry one another’s burdens. Pause before judging.

Christian hope is rooted in God, and it becomes visible when we welcome others and share their burdens. Marcus offers a companion discipline: question a harsh assumption before acting on it. These traditions are distinct; our Christian reflection grounds patient service in Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Family Devotional · October 15

Receive God’s hope. Carry one another’s burdens. Pause before judging.

Each person can name one thing that feels heavy today. Listen without interrupting, then choose one safe, practical way to help. Helping others and taking responsibility for our own actions belong together.

Family question: Who needs encouragement, and what assumption should I check before judging?

Activity: Make a small plan for one kind action today: a call, a meal, a chore, or help finding support. Do not promise what you cannot safely provide.

Amen.
